Last Will and Testament of Julia L. Butterfield

I, JULIA LORILLARD BUTTERFIELD, of the Village of Cold Spring, Putnam County, New York, do hereby make, public and declare this to be my last Will and Testament as follows:

not concerning the villages or the hospital)

ELEVENTH: I direct my executors to purchase a tract of land of such area as may seem to them sutiable at some spot accessible to the inhabitants of the Villages of Cold Spring and Nelsonville, Putnam County, New York, within a reasonable time, and cause to be constructed thereon a hospital building the said land and building to cost not exceeding the sum of Forty thousand Dollars ($40,000). I direct the said executors after conference with the physicains of the said Villages to furnish said hospital building and equip the same with modern apparatus suitable to the same, and which in the judgement of my said Executors may seem proper. I desire that the judgement of my said Executors shall control as to the size of said building and the style of architecture of the same. I direct that said hospital building shall be known as the "Julia L. Butterfield Hospital Building" and the words "In Memoriam, Julia L. Butterfield" placed on a stone over the main entrance to said building. For the purpose of furnishing and equipping the said hospital I direct my said Executors to spend not exceeding the sum of Ten thousand Dollars ($10,000).

Upon the completion of said hospital building I direct my Executors to convey the said real estate and building and all said furnishings and apparatus to the seven following named persons as Trustees, Augustus Healey, Frank Healey, David W. Hariness, Doctor Richard Giles, Doctor J. M. Winslow, Doctor C. Clark, and Albert Francis Hagar, in trust for the use and benefit of the inhabitants of the said Villages and such other persons as the said Trustees may designate. I direct said Trustees and their successors to enact such rules and regulations as may be proper for the conduct of said hospital.

I give, devise and bequeath to the following named persons, as Trustees, Augustus Healey, Frank Healey, David W. Harness, Doctor Richard Giles, Doctor J. M. Winslow, Doctor C. Clark and Albert Francis Hagar, the sum of One hundred thousand Dollars ($100,000) to invest the same and keep the same invested to use the incom thereof for maintaining and carrying on such hospital. In case of their inability to serve as such trustees, then I direct that such person or persons be immediately substituted as may be selected and appointed by the Supreme Court of New York.
